So, are you in your ‘right’ mind? Has anyone ever said to you that you are “not in your right mind?” If you are not in your ‘right mind’, then where are you? Is there a ‘wrong mind’? Are you in it instead?
Or, has it ever been said to you that you are ‘right-brained’ or ‘left-brained’? I think I am primarily a right-brained person because I tend to be more ‘artsy’ than mathematical. However, I am ambidextrous so I am not sure if I am in either brain or both together!
According to the Merriam-Webster On-line Dictionary, I learned the following:
Mind – the element of a person that enables them to be aware of the world, their experiences, to think and to feel the faculty of consciousness and thought.
Brain – an organ of soft nervous tissue contained in the skull of vertebrates, functioning as the coordinating center of sensation and intellectual and nervous activity.
The term ‘right brain’ is said to have been first used in 1970 along with ‘wigged out,’ ‘punk rock,’ ‘control freak,’ and ‘drop dead’! Also, the definition of ‘right-brain’ is: the right cerebral hemisphere of the human brain especially when viewed in terms of its predominant thought processes (as creative and intuitive thinking). I guess this means that I can get wigged out on punk rock music while freakishly trying to control my life and not dropping dead any time soon!
The term ‘left-brain’ is said to have been first used in 1827 along with ‘music box,’ ‘pound of flesh’, ‘spellbinding,’ and ‘windbag.’ The definition of ‘left brain’ is the same as the ‘right brain’ but the thought processes are predominantly analytic and logical. Noticing that this term – left brain – was coined over 100 years earlier, it makes me wonder where has the ‘right brain’ been all this time? Were we all operating on ‘brain half full or half empty’?
This information makes my thinking even more complex….If I am in my right mind, am I also in my right brain? Is there a ‘wrong’ brain or wrong mind? Egad…….Too many possibilities! Then, there is ‘mindful’ and ‘mindless’…..think I’ll save that for another time…
So, at this moment, I am not sure if I am in any ‘mind’ or any ‘brain…’ Hoping to not just be a ‘windbag’ about it, but I am waiting with bated breath for clarity as to which mind/brain I’m in and for how long. Maybe I can be right while in my left brain, but then I might be wrong if I am in my right brain! Oh, this all needs to stop!
Just a thought …
I think that the comment at the end “Oh, this all needs to stop!” may be “right”on!!!!!
Since I have dyslexia, I’m so turned around I feel brain dead, but if I’m brain dead how can I feel anything?
