On Saturday, May 18, 2019, from 7 to 9 pm, a group of Hutchinson arts supporters will be hosting a world’s first! On that night, local poets, musicians, and artists will be coming together in a wonderful show of creative expression. I am so honored to be able to participate as one of the poets and will be reading poetry from my book, Love and Lovers.
The evening is centered around the poets, all of whom will be performing self-penned pieces; love lost, love found, funny, sad, irreverent – all of the emotional palette will be covered. The coffeeshop ambience of “The Metro” will provide the perfect setting as well.
A trio of extremely talented local musicians will come in from the start, supporting the poets the way jazz musicians do to each other (if you’ve ever heard “Snap Judgment” on NPR, you’l get the idea, but ours will be better!).
Behind all of this will be a number of local artists, who will be tasked with picking a poem to illustrate live! No one, except the artist, will know which poem. At the end, the audience will be asked to guess which one!
MC for the evening will be Irishman, Dave McKane, a Hutchinson habitué since 1979, who even has a few Kansas poems to share as well!
Please join me and other supporters of the arts for this amazing local event. I hope to see you there!
